Reflections: God's love in Relationships...

Image
I watched a TV drama recently that showcased emotional abuse in the context of domestic violence. Something stood out to me. Victims of emotional abuse often go back to their abusers as though there is a twisted play on emotions at work. It takes them several tries to make a clean break. It made me contrast those unhealthy abusive relationships to our healthy love relationship with God, since to me, the way God loves us should really be the benchmark for love in other relationships. I can't help but conclude that these two types of relationships are complete opposites.  God is the ultimate picture of love. He loves wholly, unconditionally, without manipulation and without violating our free will. Recipients of God's love also return to God. The freedom we experience in God should make us want to stay and enjoy it rather than run from it. God's love is a pure kind of love. It  removes fear  rather than  instils fear,  and it  shows us how to trust  by m...

It's the most wonderful time of the year!...

Image
Christmas , the time when we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Although, it is that time of the year when, for some of us, we feel extra warm inside and happy all over, it can also be the busiest. It's that time of year when Christmas cleaning is all a-go, and the house gets a top-down cleanout! It's that time of the year when we get all decked out, as old decorations get pulled from in and above the cupboards, and beautiful lights adorn towns and villages. While all of these things are in full-swing, I encourage us to be reminded to not lose sight of the true reason for Christmas. Let's celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ by remembering His birthday and spending extra time with Him individually, and thanking Him for His great sacrifice for us. Let's not forget our Church family as we encourage each other there also. Let's celebrate Jesus by spending quality time with our loved ones, and put love into action. We can begin by whispering a prayer of love and t...

Testimony of God's faithfulness!

Image
"I’m a living testimony of God’s faithfulness and goodness in my life." In 2014, I embarked on this journey of completing my Bachelor’s degree. Three years later, I graduate with a Bachelor’s in Biochemistry and Biology with First class honours. It was not easy but God kept me. Even getting to that point to begin this particular journey was not easy. I’m a living testimony of God’s faithfulness and goodness in my life. Throughout those journeys, the importance of family really stood out to me, and through it all, I love my family all the more, not forgetting my godparents! What I can say here is only a short glimpse into the latest journey. Even before embarkment, I believe God was already preparing and making a way for me. He made it such that I didn’t have to worry about accommodation. He blessed my sister and allowed me to part-take in her blessing.  In the process, when I missed home, (and I did!), I was able to have the comfort of my family to press through ...

Devotional: Protection

Image
There are many times in our lives when we face seen and unseen dangers. By that I mean, sometimes we can see what's ahead, and we know that it's dangerous. At other times, we are caught totally off-guard. I have experienced this before. In all of this, God is able to protect us when we are in danger. He works things out for us sometimes in ways that we can't even understand with our natural eyes. As His children, His eyes are always on us, and He sees what we can't. He is always looking out for us. Before I was saved, He was looking out for me too and protecting me from danger. Thank You Lord for your love and protection. Prayer: Dear Lord, Thank You for looking out for me and protecting me. I receive your protection and love today. I declare that your grace is sufficient for me. Continue to look out for me and protect me from danger. Thank You Lord, in Jesus' name I pray Amen. Scriptures on protection that I find comfort in:  Psalm 91  Psalm 23

Be Encouraged: He's got big plans for you so trust him!

Hello Dear Reader,                                                                My name is Cassie, and I would like to remind someone of God's sustenance and ability to keep you even in your youth. I was not a party girl, grew up with christian parents and inhaled and exhaled church on a regular basis but I knew I was empty. I think Sunday School lessons lingered on my mind from day to day causing me to wonder about the God I heard about in those classes. This God had to be more than just the stories. I was not meant to be here threatened from since in my mother’s womb, run over by a...

Devotional: Guidance

Image
As children, they would depend on their parents or even their teacher for Guidance throughout their lives. It's somewhat like us as Christians. We look to God for guidance in every which way even though at times we act like we can do it by ourselves. But we can't do everything or anything on our own; we need God's guidance in every decision and in every situation. In every way I think of him as a guide to a successful life. And I believe we ought to ask him for his guidance. This reminds me of two scripture verses. James 1:5-6 says "if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind".  Prayer          Dear  God and heavenly father I pray that you give us the guidance in our everyday lives so we can bring others to you and we ourselves try not to...

A Book Review: Abigail's Journey

Image
If you liked Journey of the Heart, then you'll probably like Abigail's Journey. Abigail's Journey is the sequel to Judith Bronte's Journey of the Heart and is easily one of my favourite novels.  It's witty and romantic, captivating and inspiring. The writing style of the author was intriguing as was the plot of the book. Jake Murphy is young Christian man, a kind of loner, who was convicted of second-degree murder. He's out on parole for good behaviour. Jake is strange in that he can't stand physical contact. Abigail Johannes, the daughter of Izumi and John, just 18 years of age, is a young Christian woman who embodies the strength and confidence of being shaped by her loving family. Strange enough, Abigail wasn't interested in showing affection, or romance, in the slightest. Through a plot wielding twist, we see Jake Murphy overcome his painful past and Abigail learn to show compassion. It was unexpected. It was beautiful. And throughou...
