Youth inspiring you

Q. Which two words would you use to describe yourself?

Q. Do you have a favourite quote or scripture?

When asked which two words she would use to describe herself, Tiffany indicated that she sees herself as being an ambitious and charismatic individual. When asked what was her favourite quote or scripture, she had this to say, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”, taken from Philippians 4:13.

Tiffany is a young Christian who has bright hopes for the future. At the age of 18, she has already begun to make her future a reality.

Tiffany began braiding hair at the age of eight after having been inspired by the work of other braiders. In her own words, she didn’t choose hair, “hair chose her”. By age fifteen, she’d taken that old hobby and began turning into a booming business and testimony. A business, yes, since now she is able to make an earning by braiding hair, and doing weaves and wigs. And a testimony, yes! Tiffany states that even before embarking on this business venture, she lifted up her business in prayer. She gives God thanks for the talent that He has blessed her with, through which she can bring Him glory. As a young Christian, Tiffany encourages other youth to pursue the dreams which God has given to them and to not be inhibited by fear of what others may or may not say.

It is a joy to hear the plans of this young entrepreneur. Hopefully, in the near future, she’ll have achieved yet another stepping stone, owning the title of a well-renowned physiotherapist.

As young Christians, it is an honour and a privilege to use the talents that God gives to us to the best of our abilities, so that they may yield their fruit, and in so doing please the One who gave them. It is important therefore to seek God first and to know what He is saying to us. I’m reminded of the parable of the talents in the Book of Matthew chapter 25 where the master expected his servants to have used the talents that he had given to them and to see an increase. I’m also reminded of the scripture which says, “Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity”, from 1 Timothy 4:12.

This is Youth Inspiring You, inspiring you to seek God first in all that you do and to live the Christian life.

For the past two weeks, I had the awesome opportunity to be a part of Camp C.H.A.O.S. (Christians Hyped About Our Saviour), the Barbados Wesleyan Holiness Camp 2017. It really was an awesome opportunity to be able to fellowship with and get a glimpse of Christian youth in another country. Two things that stood out for me from the sessions that I attended and which I held on to, were:

1. Forget the past. I was reminded of the scripture from John 8:36 that says, ‘If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.’
2. Do not undervalue you. You are important. As young people, this is prime time to get to know ourselves better, figure out what we’re good at and find out what amazing things we can contribute to the groups we’re a part of, the relationships we are in, the wider society and the world.

I remember a part of devotional that I saw today which made the point that it is not how far we’ve traveled which matters but it’s ‘what we bring back’. The journey is important, and what we learn as we travel along is important.

I also encountered youth who were inspirational in their aspirations, cheerful attitudes and their dedication to service. There was one individual, A.C., who stood out to me in particular. She aspires to become a Chocolatier, one who makes confectionery from chocolate. My experience with this beautiful thirteen year old was warm and kind. She welcomed me and my friends and family from SVG with open arms, and was often ready with a hearty hug. That, in itself, is inspirational! May we be inspired to be all that God wants us to be as we go along life’s journey knowing that as Christians, God is with us every step of the way.

Meet K.F. Her passion is animals and it's also dance. I have seen her dance, and agree that she is a natural dancer. She expresses in dance, what is felt and said in song. I have also witnessed her compassion for animals. Moreover, the way she speaks about her love for God's creatures is captivating.

K.F. is only sixteen years of age. She is a committed Christian who is passionate about what she cares about. She is passionate about God and the things of God. When asked, she says that she would like to be a Veterinarian and to be a dance instructor.

Our purpose as Christians is to bring glory to God. In all that we do, we ought to glorify God. We are each shaped differently; we are all unique. Therefore our innate abilities may be different, but for each of us, our purpose remains giving glory to God. I pray that we're inspired to recognise what our God - given abilities are, to unearth the treasures that God has placed inside of us and to allow ourselves to use them for God's glory. When we focus on our purpose, which is to bring glory to God, our passion ought to follow our purpose. As Pastor Steven Furtick once put it, our passion follows our purpose. I pray that as we focus on our purpose, the treasures that are within us begin to open and shine through us.

A new chapter

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

For some, September 4th 2017, marks the first day of a new school, a new class or a new job. For others, it may be the start of a new relationship, a new hobby or a 'new' country. For each of us, it's a page unwritten.

I've heard it worded this way, each day is like a present waiting to be unwrapped. I hope we enjoy it and not just endure it. I hope we cherish it and not aimlessly squander it. I hope we invest wisely and one day reap a bountiful increase, in love, laughter, joy and peace.

Brothers and sisters in Christ, this is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it (Psalm 118:24).

And when the second day and the second week come, as God wills, may we still remember that this too is the day that the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. I pray that God continues to strengthen us and the work of our hands, in Jesus' name, amen.

Be encouraged and be inspired!
