Youth inspiring you: Camp C.H.A.O.S.

For the past two weeks, I had the awesome opportunity to be a part of Camp C.H.A.O.S. (Christians Hyped About Our Saviour), the Barbados Wesleyan Holiness Camp 2017. It really was an awesome opportunity to be able to fellowship with and get a glimpse of Christian youth in another country. Two things that stood out for me from the sessions that I attended and which I held on to, were:

1. Forget the past. I was reminded of the scripture from John 8:36 that says, ‘If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.’
2. Do not undervalue you. You are important. As young people, this is prime time to get to know ourselves better, figure out what we’re good at and find out what amazing things we can contribute to the groups we’re a part of, the relationships we are in, the wider society and the world.

I remember a part of devotional that I saw today which made the point that it is not how far we’ve traveled which matters but it’s ‘what we bring back’. The journey is important, and what we learn as we travel along is important.

I also encountered youth who were inspirational in their aspirations, cheerful attitudes and their dedication to service. There was one individual, A.C., who stood out to me in particular. She aspires to become a Chocolatier, one who makes confectionery from chocolate. My experience with this beautiful thirteen year old was warm and kind. She welcomed me and my friends and family from SVG with open arms, and was often ready with a hearty hug. That, in itself, is inspirational! May we be inspired to be all that God wants us to be as we go along life’s journey knowing that as Christians, God is with us every step of the way.
